Geckos, Frogs, and Isopods, oh my!
I’ve always loved animals. And I always knew I wanted to work with them in some capacity. (You can read about my journey from kennel worker to sea turtle rehab to marine educator to zoo marketing coordinator here.) I just hadn’t figured out the exact right fit for how I wanted to work with animals. How can I bring my unique skills and experience together and help other people fall in love with these creatures? Enter: photography.
Wait. That’s not a gecko, frog, or isopod! That’s an elephant! (I know, I know, keep reading…)
I started my photography journey focused solely on wildlife. (This is still a huge passion of mine and a good portion of my work. You can check out my wildlife photography here.)
That’s until a friend reached out to me about taking photos of her family. I thought “but I shoot elephants, not people.” But alas, very rarely do I turn down an opportunity to try something new (well, in a safe environment, at least.) I agreed to do a session with her family. I. LOVED. it. (Thanks for the push, Katie!)
First family photo shoot! (Still no animals, Katie…)
That’s when I started to shoot “human subjects,” as I call it. And of course I still shoot human subjects. I am still in love with it. But you know what I’m most in love with? When people bring their pets to their session.
Ok well at least we have an animal now. But it’s still not a gecko…and there’s still a human…
And wait a minute… You’re telling me we can do just pet sessions where all the attention is just on the pet? Yes, please!
So now, here we are in July of 2022 and I’ve shot some adorable dogs and cats with and without their humans. It’s absolutely incredible. Buuuuuuuut (like I said, can’t turn down a new adventure) something was missing. All of those awesome NOT-SO-FUZZY creatures that deserve love and attention and to be admired!
Enter: Jason. Jason is a former co-worker of mine from the Zoo and I knew he had a menagerie of cool creatures at home. So naturally, I decided to invite myself over to photograph his critters! (Really though, many thanks to Jason for letting me crash in on you and your kiddos and do this!)
And even though I was there for the animals, I couldn’t help but include the humans, too!
It all comes full circle. Animals, to humans, to humans with animals, to animals by themselves, back to humans with animals. I love it all.
So if you’re looking for a photographer that can capture your family and your beloved pets, look no further! I am here for you! Shoot me a message. Let’s plan your dream shoot together.
