What does it mean to be “mom”?
The other morning, my daughter pulled on a pair of socks that used to swallow her whole. They were from when she was about five months old: soft, oversized, grippy bottomed. One of those little things that gets tucked away and somehow still finds its way back into rotation. This time, they barely fit. She noticed my face change and asked why I looked sad. I told her it wasn’t sadness, really, that I was just emotional thinking about how amazing it is that she keeps on growing.
Because she’s growing fast, and some days that feels louder than others.
That feeling is not unfamiliar. One of the most meaningful parts of photographing families is seeing that same realization arrive for parents in a different way. There are clients who stay with you long after their session ends. One Mother’s Day session stands out in particular.
“I wanted photos done for Mother’s Day this year since my son and daughter are growing up in front of my eyes. When we arrived, we just knew we were going to be in great hands. Katie is amazing in how she makes you feel comfortable and confident. These 2 elements will only equal FUN as you choose to make lasting memories with photos to share with your friends and family.”
-Nichelle
Some people just stay with you—and Nichelle is one of them. Because what started as a simple portrait experience turned into something more lasting: a reminder of what it feels like to be fully present with the people you love most.
And yet, most of those memories never make it past a phone. They live there for a few weeks… and then slowly disappear under screenshots, texts, and forgotten albums. But something changes when those memories become part of a home. When a daughter walks past a wall every day and sees herself wrapped up in her mother’s arms. When a family doesn’t just remember a season—but lives with it. The goal was never just taking photos. It’s preserving connection in a way that can be seen, held, and remembered.
All of our family portrait sessions are created with that in mind—centered on connection, not perfection. No pressure for perfectly behaved kids. No expectation of performance. Just honest moments with the people who matter most.
If you’ve been wanting photos that feel like your family—real, connected, and unposed—let’s make that happen.
All family portrait sessions take place in Tampa Bay, Florida and surrounding areas.
