“Anyone know of any cows?”
I posed that question on my Facebook a couple weeks back and was surprised at how many of my friends either had cows themselves or knew someone with cows or knew of a place that I could go take photos of cows. (Good company I keep, eh?)
Why cows? It’s COVID times, I’m desperate. Eh, ok, I was desperate to take the photo of something cute and what better than a fuzzy cow? Also, I love cows!
When I was in high school doing the ol’ tour-the-college-campus visits to decide where I would ultimately go to university, part of the visit ALWAYS included a trip to the school’s barn. I mean, it made sense, I was going to study Animal Science, so I had to check out the facilities, including the cows, right? I remember my dad’s Honda smelled of barn when you turned on the A/C for almost two years after all the barn/cow visits we did back in 2008! (Sorry Dad, thanks Dad!)
Fast forward 12 years (YIKES! when did that happen?) and I still love cows as much as I did back when I was a student at University of Vermont freezing my butt of in the middle of winter in “lab” at the barn. (I still own my coveralls from that lab, but they are HUGE because they were meant to fit over winter jackets and jeans to keep you warm. You can see them in my Comic Con photo on my about me page. I use them to cosplay as Kaylee Frye!) Now, I’m in Florida and not quite as cold. But I was amazed to find that Florida also has a LOT of cows! It’s definitely more of a beef industry than dairy (as it was in Vermont) but still - so many cute little faces I get to see regularly driving almost anywhere!
So, it shouldn’t have been such a surprise that so many people came to my aid when I was (basically) desperate to take pictures of cows. Our old dog trainer, Victoria, invited me to take pics of her family’s cows and I was SO PUMPED ‘cause it was so close to my house and on private property and I could walk around and take pics from different angles.
And the BEST part? I got more than I bargained for when I saw there were GOATS sharing a pasture with the cows and my goodness were these goats cute! Oh and did I mention the dog? My little Animal Science heart was in heaven.
Many thanks to Victoria for letting me go all paparazzi on her lovely animal family! I think I’ll need to add “farm animal portraits” to my repertoire, what do you think?
