Meet Miss Kayla
Our dog was 14 when we decided it was time to add a cat to the family. Kimmy (the aforementioned dog) understood squirrels as prey, understood dogs as something she must prove her alpha-ness to, but did not understand cats. We used this to our advantage.
It was during our daily walks in the neighborhood when Kimmy befriended the cat we lovingly call “Grey Kitty.” They became such fast friends that Grey Kitty would come trotting across the street towards Kimmy when we walked past.
We knew it was possible to add a cat to our furry family, but hadn’t talked much more past “yeah it’d be nice to have a cat.” So I did what any dog owner does: I went to Petsmart for dog food and come out with a cat! Ok, ok it wasn’t quite that fast but pretty darn close. I visited the adoptable kitties as I picked up Kimmy’s food and saw this one mama cat very quietly mushed up in her crate. She was calm, fluffy, and adorable. I thought with her being a bit older than the rest of the kittens (which I found out were in fact her kittens) that she would be a good match for our handicapped dog. Wouldn’t make her run around too much or harass her, you know? Ok I missed the mark a little on that one, as Kayla the cat did indeed still get Kimmy amped up simply by existing. But they were friends—sometimes begrudgingly, if you asked Kimmy.
But still, Kayla proved to be great company for Kimmy in her last couple of years this side of the Rainbow Bridge. And Kayla has learned to love getting all of the attention. This attention, of course, includes modeling. And, well, she’s great at it!
Did you know that these photos were taken with a mobile studio setup? That means Katie Murray Photography can come to you, so your cat can be in the comfort of their own home for a session. Interested in booking a cat photo session? (Uh, yes please!) Get in touch!
